I bought the 28-40 in 2014. I have had zero problems with it. It heats my house (1500+ sq. ft), garage, and hot water easily. I use around 7-10 chord of wood depending on the winter. I periodically scrape the heat exchanger and it is easy to unload the ash from the ash pan. I clean it out in spring when I shut it down.

With an investment as large as an outdoor boiler I did my research and decided on a Portage and Main boiler. I am very glad I did. As soon as I unloaded it in my yard you could see the quality that went into making it. The warranty is great, the customer service has been outstanding with them calling me several times to check on my satisfaction and to review maintenance tips and up keep. After 5 years, I highly recommend a Portage and Main boiler.

I have been an OWB user for 10 years. We burned a lot of wood and finally suffered a critical failure with our old stove that was made by a different manufacture. After a lot of research, this season (2018) we made the decision to buy a Portage and Main BL 28-40. Now, we wished we had went with a P&M to start with. Our new stove uses less wood and stays up to temperature longer. We are not quiet half way through our first season with our new stove yet, but we already know we made a good decision. The stove heats our home and domestic hot water just like our old unit did, but it does it more efficiently. Installation was easy since we were replacing an existing unit, but I had a few questions and reached out to the manufacture. They were quick to respond and answered all my questions. A few weeks after heating season began for us, I received a call from the manufacture one evening. They wanted to know how our stove was doing and how we liked it. The sale was already made and the deal was done, but we received a follow up call from them anyway. I think that speaks measures about a company. I recommend Portage and Main.
