I was in this school for 6 formative, precious years. Good experiences and bad. This was the 60s. I remember an opposing, obese, frightening teacher called Mr. Paul Wragg who became my mentor when I grew old enough to attend his class. I utterly adored him - he would not tolerate slouches, would write reams of information on the board. He adored teaching & loved children although many didn't realize that because he was "strict" (actually, he was just doing his job). I had a Miss Kidney for 2 years of accelerated grades (3-5). She encouraged my love of learning & reading & was a gentle soul. She was very old but in those days we listened to this gentle woman. I did have some bad experiences in this school in my first year, perhaps because I did not speak English (despite being born in Toronto to immigrant parents). I recall my grade one teacher (forgot her name) refusing to let me go to the bathroom, forcing me to urinate in my seat. And another teacher, a fat middle aged women, monitoring the water fountain allowing us only one sip during recess of water on a desperately hot day. Unfortunately, these are memories you also take with you forever. I'm grateful I don't recall their names but focus on the wonderful teachers I had. Another person I'd like to commend is the librarian who allowed me at a very early age to take books out of the "older kids" section. She was also instrumental in allowing me to fly with my love of knowledge that persists to this day. Today I am studying, at 53, how to speak Hawai'ian.
