Our daughters started at Ryouko about a year ago and we are very happy with the program. We were especially impressed with how quickly they adapted to the pandemic and transitioned to online learning. The masters and instructors are excellent at what they do, while also being encouraging AND remembering every student’s name from the minute they enrol! The other students and families are also warm and welcoming. We have been quite impressed thus far.

My son has been attending Ryouko for the last 3 years. He started in the Little Dragons program and is now in the regular Kids Taekwando program and the XSD (Extreme Skills Development) program.

The Little Dragons program is fantastic for little ones. They focus on learning self-control and discipline. It really helped my son learn to focus. Before COVID, the kids also had the opportunity to practice sparring also (at that age it is adorable). Master Keegan (and previously Master Dianne) are very patient but firm.

For the regular Kids Taekwando (ages 7+), Master Chris, James, Keegan, and team provide good instruction. Each day of the week focuses on a different element (e.g. Mondays are skills training and Fridays are forms).

The XSD program is fantastic. Master Chris and James have experience in the stunt side of the film industry and bring that knowledge to the program. The kids have a great time and it is an intense workout. They get to learn cool tricks and a safe environment. My son could not wait to turn 7 so that he could join the program.

Regarding COVID precautions, they have taken this very seriously. The facility is pretty big compared to some other martial arts facilities and is cleaned after every class (floor wiped down, any equipment is wiped or sprayed with the disinfectant equipment). For the time being, there is no sparring to reduce the potential for contact. They make sure that kids each have their own large space to practice. They also have the option to take the classes online. Kids participate via Zoom at the same time as that the in class lesson is taking place. During lockdown, we did the online lessons and really enjoyed them.

The community is great and is another reason outside of the instruction that keep people here. The parents and kids are really caring and they take care of each other. Many of the kids and parents have become friends outside of class. Before COVID, Ryouko did Halloween and Christmas parties that allowed the community to socialize together. Many kids regularly participated in official tournaments as well as the in-house tournaments. While the kids did well, the focus was on their hard work and grit rather than if they placed.

Overall, great supportive environment. If you attend regularly, the price point is very reasonable compared to other extracurricular classes.

Our girls started at Ryouko earlier this year and really enjoy the classes as the Masters and Instructors have created a safe and enjoyable environment to learn in, especially Master Mark & Master Kegan, the girls main instructors. When the pandemic hit they were up and learning online very quickly and our girls have not looked back. We love the sense of accomplishment and confidence that both girls have and continue to develop at Ryouko. We would recommend anyone take their kids there for classes, you won’t be disappointed, and their one month trial is helpful if you’re on the fence. Looking forward to having the girls birthday parties there in the future as I’ve heard great things. ???

Before we started at Ryouko we did trial classes at a few neighbouring gyms. We decided on Ryouko almost immediately. The staff are friendly and welcoming. They encourage their students to work hard, stay focused and to be positive, all while having fun too. It is easy to see how much each instructor is truly invested in every childs success. It is a pleasure to be part of the Ryouko family.
