Donway Place

My mother was a resident at The Donway for the past 2 years. Initially, as with most elderly people, she was reluctant to leave her family home but she said she would give it a try.
She loved it! Her room, the staff and the meals (with the odd exception!) She felt like she was surrounded by good, caring people who quickly became her friends and treated her respectfully as if she was their mother. Our family could rest knowing she would be looked after at all hours throughout the day in a very attentive and professional manner. As with any facility, there were some hiccups but they were quickly addressed and rectified. I believe that more important than the problem, is how it is dealt with and we were always kept informed of any problem or health issue in a timely manner.
My mother went from being lonely and feeling vulnerable to enjoying life again. She made friends and looked enjoyed her table mates at meal times.
Sadly, my mom passed away on June 4th from an ongoing blood disorder but even with Covid, she experienced a "good death"...surrounded by her family and visited by staff of all levels. I'd like to give special mention to the Director, Lynn Jennings, the "head" of our Donway family. She has worked over 107 days straight and was available to us any time, day or night. In fact, one night, I called her (waking her up unfortunately) inquiring about getting a cot in our room so that we could stay with our mom and she personally found one and brought it to us at 10:30pm..Additionally, they have not had any COVID cases in the residence. Quite a feat for over 500 people.
If you're looking for a true residence and not an institution like setting you couldn't TRUST a better facility for your loved one.
Below is the type of correspondence we would receive as an update on mom's day when she wasn't feeling well....

Mum enjoyed a walk around the garden patio this afternoon with Gaya. Your Mum had a healthy appetite for dinner this evening – she ate all of her soup as well as the entrée (seafood)Your Mum was in good spirits – the staff are checking and ensuring she is drinking plenty of fluids. I can see the difference in your Mum..
Lori has made a schedule for your Mum to be checked and encouraged with fluids every two hours..

Now, that's caring that comes from the heart and not merely doing what's laid out in a job description. I will be forever in their debt for ensuring mom had the best care in a loving environment and enjoyed her last years of life.

The staff are friendly & do their best to be helpful to the residents. I'm sure it's not easy keeping every resident happy with the range of physical & mental ailments affecting the elderly. The food is very good, and the common areas are very clean. The downside is that retirement residences are cash cows for the shareholders, so be prepared to pay dearly for services. However, this is a criticism that applies to every private retirement residence, not just Revera Donway.
