Nix Snow

This was my first year using this service. I have a very long driveway and just didn't have it in me to shovel this year. The service simply outstanding!

Prompt, fast, and thorough, but not for every driveway.

The Good: Nix is right on top of snow removal after every snowfall. I used a different service last year, and they were responding 12+ hours after a snow. Nix is hitting our place before morning, which is exactly what you want when you are trying to get to work.

Not so Good: Why 3 stars? It is because if your driveway isn't perfectly level, or is a relatively steep grade, Nix creates a LOT of work post-visit. Our driveway is at about a 20 degree pitch, and has been compressed down over the years to leave slightly depressed 'tracks' where the cars have parked (probably 1" below at its lowest point). These lower areas can't be accessed by any machine, but the Nix method (massive tractor-pulled snow blower) leaves large tracts of heavily compressed snow. Because of the pitch of the driveway, these large swaths of snow can be impassable on foot because of how slippery they are..
I've already dumped 2 bags of salt in a month trying to get rid of this 'snowice', and wiped out completely more than once trying to navigate the driveway. Not only does the tractor crush the snow, but the plow itself does not often get down to the surface layer of the driveway, so there is always a sheen of compressed snow left behind. It can be very dangerous.
I have spent many hours this winter going over the entire driveway with an ice chipper, breaking apart compressed snow left behind.

Also, because of the size of the plow, they can't get very close to the garage, so they leave about 2-3 feet of snow right in front of the doors that needs to be shovelled. Last, even though their branded stakes mark the edge of the driveway, they don't plow all the way to the edge of my driveway. They leave about 2-3 feet of unplowed snow on my driveway, which isn't a big problem, but it's still not quite up to expectations.

Ultimately, because of our driveway, Nix isn't a good fit for us, but if you have a relatively level driveway that is flat, I do recommend them.

Always impressed with this company.. Getting out email alerts whenever we are to have a snow-event & updating clients about services is a great, professional service! The staff is patient & willing to answer any of your questions. Nix certainly has made winter easier for my household! I will definitely be booking with them again.
