We first met Tim back in the spring when we made a trip out to meet him and see his beautiful pups. We were very impressed with his facility - it was clean and spacious and his dogs all seemed so well behaved and loved. We were able to bring home our sweet Coco this summer and she's been a tremendous addition to our family. Tim has always been responsive and knowledgeable and super helpful with any questions we have. We highly recommend!

We adopted "girl89" (now known as Luna) early April 2019, so we've had her a bit over a year now. We chose Maple Breeze in no small part because they had a pup available "now", and all the parent health certificates, etc, were available online. When we went to pickup Luna, everything looked in order and matched what we expected, and Tim was friendly and offered any advice we asked for.

Speaking to Luna herself, I need to first caution that puppies are, like people, unique and unpredictable. Obviously the breeding and very early socialization can have an impact, but at the same time, much will depend on what happens after we brought her home and also, some just on chance and luck. Luna's parents were Ellie and Sam.

Health: First -- with any large breed dog, there's a concern about the risk of hip problems. We have seen no early evidence of hip problems with Luna. Doing very well on this count. Our vet did have to fix what he described as a "very small" hernia when we had her spayed, but he indicated that this should not be a concern (unless of course we had purchased her for breeding, but she was sold as a pet). We did laproscopic spay, and if I remember correctly, the hernia was small enough that it did not require any incisions beyond what was necessary for the spay anyways. As is common with many puppies (I've been told up to 50%), a lab test found giardia, but initially not enough to cause stool abnormalities (ie: not enough to cause diarrhea); we had some trouble getting rid of this and we had to keep her on GI sensitive food for a while (and it delayed her socialization with other pups), but we eventually were able to go back to regular dog food. I have no reason to believe this is related to her breeding -- I'd blame either bad luck (or perhaps our vet should have pushed us to put her on Fortiflora during the first antibiotic treatment). Overall she's pretty healthy and we believe she was well-cared for during her time as a new puppy at Maple Breeze.

Physical: So much puppy-to-puppy variation, this doesn't mean much. I'd put her around 72cm at the shoulders, but only about 70lbs. Plotting her early puppy growth, we expected her to weigh more, but at some point she stopped putting on weight and just turned it into height.

Temperament: She does not have the "skittish poodle" gene. We socialized her appropriately, but from friends who got less lucky with their doodles, we're confident she does not have this particular genetic trait. She is a hyper-greeter and (too) friendly, but (with much effort) trainable for this. Our dog trainer did note one stand-out trait -- she is extremely gentle with her mouth/paws (aside from the usual puppy nipping). For example, we don't even have the heart to teach her to stop grabbing our shoes from the door because she is so gentle with them that by the time we find them back, it looks like they've been shoe-shined, rather than chewed on. Consistent with our expectations for the breed, she is smart but stubborn (eg, she easily handled even context-sensitive commands like "out", but her lack of a super strong food drive and stubborn streak mean training still takes effort). Also was easy to socialize towards our kids (who can be a bit rough), with other dogs, and with pretty much anything else. Again, for all of this, genes (combination of breeding+luck), along with environment, both play an important part -- so this not meaningless, but is by definition anecdotal.

Have no problems recommending Maple Breeze for anyone who wants a standard Bernedoodle.
