Rock Glen Conservation Area

Beautiful area with several breathtaking views. I’ve been here several times and it’s certainly worth the trip. The trails are good for at least 2-3 hours of hiking(if not more). We also spent several hours hanging out by the waterfall which seemed like a fun spot for families since kids can splash around in the water.

Great place to take the family, or a girlfriend. Lots of trails to walk and sights to see, can be kind of crowded at the waterfall so be mindful of the time you go there. I tried fishing at the end of the drain but there was not much to catch, a couple small fish though

Bring water socks and watch your step, it can be quite slippery down at the waterfall.

Visit in August 2019. Pay on honour system at front gate on day of visit. Beautiful conservation area with falls and very well maintained trails. Picnic and playing fields. Some historic structures along falls and river still in place. Those who may be mobility impaired may wish to avoid the stairs up and down the gorge. Suggest appropriate footwear.

Had a wonderful lunch and afternoon at the conservation area and waterfall. Even with relatively little water the falls was still great. We’ve come back regularly since we were kids and came in our first school trip to search for fossils.

The conservation area can be very busy on a hot Summer day. There are three parking levels (with the third being at the top of a fairly steep hill). The waterfall itself is about 60 feet high and has a decent sized pool at the base where you can wade in the water. You can also stand at the base of the waterfall to cool off and get some photos. Be advised that the rocks and river bed below the waterfall are VERY slippery. Water shoes are recommended. This is not a man-made water park, but a natural feature which has its risks. The area also features a set of over 200 stairs that take you down to the river bed to look for fossils. Sadly after many years in operation fossils are few and far between. The climb back up the stairs is not for the faint of heart, and if you have any health or mobility issues or are not in good physical shape - I do NOT recommend it. The museum features some very interesting examples of archaeology and geology from the area. Not a place I would revisit, but if you are looking for something a little different it may worth checking out.
