Kris' Fish & Chips

Been going here for years. Great for local fish, and ice cream. Highly recommended.

An absolute must stop when in Gimil, mb ??I ordered the pickerel and fries. The fish was cooked pefect, fluffy and crispy at the same time. The tartar sauce was tasty as well, a must for fish and chips meal. Fries were cooked perfect just adding to the whole meal. The menu is large but not overwhelming, great options on how you would like your fish cooked. Small inside seating but take it out and sit along the beach which is right across the street. Parking is difficult during busy peak summer vacationers but worth the walk if you have park a bit away. Non peak parking I was able to park right in front of the restaurant. Staff were very friendly and the wait for the food was quick. If you like fish and chips Kris' is a for sure hit.

If half stars were available, I may have awarded 3 1/2. We went for supper while in the Interlake and options were limited. We had pickerel dinners, 1 pan fried and one deep fried.
The fries were unspectacular. They were kind of dry and not flavorful - perhaps it's the variety of potato they use, or perhaps I've been spoiled by great French fries.
The battered and deep fried pickerel seemed fresh with no fish flavor however the batter was a little greasy. The pan fried pickerel didn't taste as fresh and was a tiny bit rubbery.
They were definitely edible pickerel meals but pickerel can be incredible when fresh and cooked right in clean oil.
We choose to make them dinner meals which included coleslaw and a bun for an extra $3.50 which seemed a little steep when I saw the size of the bun and the tiny cup of coleslaw.

I would eat there again under similar circumstances (being hungry and having limited options)

Location is perfect. Open for dine-in with little seats to obtain the social distancing. Very hospital and helpful staff. You can pay by credit/debit cards or by cash. Food served hot and with good quality. Don't forget to take some photos with these old designs on the walls. Take your soft serve ice cream before leaving. They serve the ice cream from take away window.
