The Short Ferry is well worth taking to Newcastle Island, it’s about 12 Dollars return for Adults, runs every 30 minutes. Stops for lunch 1-2 and stops about 7pm so don’t miss last bus home. Take the shore trail to kanaki bay, great spots for swimming, very shallow and safe and warm in the summer. Great Forrest walks with some very old cedar trees growing there. You can pay to camp overnight and when we were there in the summer there was a cafe open for food, drinks and ice cream 💚❤️ go early in the morning and spend the day or take a tent and stay over.

Great little ferry ride to Newcastle Island where you can hike or camp.

It was a fine experience on the ferry. The boat captain supplied us masks as they were mandatory and we had forgotten ours. It's a very short trip and reasonably priced for how good the experience was at Newcastle. I highly recommend going to Jeff's kayak and bike rental just on the coast of the island. Do not go anywhere else for kayak rentals!

I've been using the Newcastle Ferry for 4 years and I have always been impressed with the service. The ferries are well maintained, clean, and lots of room. I always enjoy to get away for a day on Newcastle Island to explore. A very inexpensive way to spend an entire day.

At times, when the entire family gets together, we spend the night or two so we take our camping gear, tents, & mountain bikes. The friendly Staff, Captain and Crew make it easy as they carefully load and unload our property from the ferry for us. Also, on Newcastle there are wheel barrels to use to get your stuff to the campsites if you wish.

For 2020 they have a made it mandatory to wear masks on the Ferries.

Aug 21/2108. The ferry ride over to Newcastle Island is a short ride.I’m sure the kid in all of us will like the little poke boat ferry. The schedule is flexible and if you miss one another one is to fallow.I shouldn’t be even mentioning this but we have a new season in Canada and it’s called Smoke and fires season. The new norm for our province is to put up with forest fires throughout the province and with it thick smoke. As of this date we have so many fires,530 as of this date and our visibility in Nanaimo visibly is less than 1 mile at this date.
Newcastle Island normally offers some spectacle views.I’ve visited Newcastle a few times.Snuneymuxw First Nation people permits the use of a non motorized bikes on the island.
This time I circumvented the island, with numerous stops for pictures. This took me about me about 3.5 hrs.I’m sure you could do this easily in about 1.5 hrs.The maintenance guys use quads to service the island, given that if you stick to the wide trails you should have no problem.Be aware other people use the trail so share the trail,be nice. Ride safe and have fun.
