Our family's experience with Peace Portal Seniors Village was nothing short of amazing. A wonderfully run facility (home!!) with staff that is 2nd to none...we will never forget them.

Our Dad was in care at Peace Portal during nearly all of 2019. I looked carefully at complex care facilities in Surrey/White Rock, when Dad 's Alzheimer's was worsening, and he was near nearing the end of the time he could stay at home, even with caregivers. No facility compared with Peace Portal in quality, and I knew I had found the place for Dad. Since I had worked years ago in care facilities, I knew what I was looking for. Without exception, every staff member at Peace Portal was unusually capable. All were kind, patient, thoughtful and professional with every resident, including when I know Dad could be a challenge. Since I had to travel a distance from our home, where nothing comparable was available, and usually could only make weekend visits, I needed high confidence in the care facility, and my expectations were always greatly exceeded. Dad received wonderful comfort care in his last weeks at Peace Portal. Again, my family and I would strongly recommend Peace Portal to anyone looking for memory care or complex care for their family member.

My mother has been a resident of Peace Portal Seniors Village for four months. Eight months ago she was living on her own and had a fall, breaking her pelvis. After two weeks in the hospital she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, resulting from a heart valve which is tearing itself apart. She is a very frail 89 year- old and is not a candidate for that particular valve replacement and as a family we cannot provide a suitable level of care ourselves, so we began looking at retirement homes. After the hospital stay she moved into a local assisted living facility. This was a beautiful home with a central staircase, a grand piano and gourmet meals. In some respects it was similar to living on a cruise ship, however the experience was entirely lost on my mother. We learned quickly that she was not interested in the meals or the activities and was spending most of her time in her room. After a fainting spell and another stay in the hospital we moved her to Peace Portal, which is a much better fit to her condition and her needs.
At Peace Portal the emphasis is on the care. There is a registered nurse on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The care aides spend time with the residents each day and get to know them and their needs. Several times as my mother’s condition changed this was noticed by the care aides and brought to our attention, and with the assistance of the staff we were able to make corrective changes. I believe that at Peace Portal my mother has received much better care than she would have in the hospital. I also believe that living at Peace Portal has extended her life by several months.
At Peace Portal the meals are nutritious, much better than my mother was eating when she was living on her own. They are not fancy, pretentious or “gourmet”. She particularly likes the oatmeal at breakfast, because it reminds her of growing up on the prairies as a young girl. My mother has lost her sense of taste and is in early stages of dementia -- Peace Portal provides familiar and comforting meals which my mother likes.
As my mother has settled in at Peace Portal, my wife and I have had the opportunity to meet many of the staff and the other residents. It truly is a community, and as a frequent visitor I’ve occasionally been mistaken by other visitors for one of the residents. I’ve been very impressed with how the residents are treated by the staff, and also with the length of time that many of the staff have been employed by the company. To me this suggests a company which treats its employees well and employees who enjoy their work.
My other observation is that Peace Portal is less expensive than some of the other care homes in the area. At Peace Portal the daily rate covers almost all of the care my mother needs. A nearby home has a lower base rate but when everything is added in it comes to about fifty percent more for the same level of care – it’s important to check around.
In summary: Peace Portal is a well-run home with the emphasis on care, a comfortable environment, excellent staff and is reasonably priced.

My Mum, at the age of 93, had taken a fall and required some Respite Care while she healed from a broken wrist. The staff at Peace Portal were fabulous. They made her feel welcomed and looked after her during her stay. From the Community Relations Manager on down through the RNs and staff, the care and compassion was phenomenal. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone needing care.

After being fully independent my mother needed full time care and I was unable to be there. Peace Portal Seniors Village was the first to respond to my request for help, even on a weekend. Jamie MacDonald and the staff were instrumental in my mother’s recovery. Their both professional and caring attitude could not have been better. I would highly recommend this residence to anyone.
