Our design team at Urban West Architecture worked closely with Naikoon Contracting on the design and construction of a complex custom single family residence located in North Vancouver. The residence received both Passive House and Net Zero Certification. Naikoon is one the best single family home builders that we have worked with over the past 20 years in the industry. Their team is professional and incredibly knowledgeable about all aspects of custom home design. As an Architect they made our job easier by collaborating with us during the design process and coming up with innovative solutions that met our design intent and satisfied the client’s objectives all while keeping a close eye on the project budget. We worked directly with senior project manager Simon Wong - he was resourceful, highly organised and a pleasure to work with. Naikoon’s commitment to great design and impeccable craftsmanship shines through in all of their projects. We look forward to collaborating on another project with them in the future.

The team at Naikoon Contracting was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. At the onset of our project, we were very impressed with their detailed process and systems to ensure a well-managed and on-time/budget project. When deciding to work with Naikoon, costs and scheduling were transparent. They are not the type of contractor to promise a (lower) price or quicker timeline in order to get the job and then deliver an over-budget/over-schedule project.

As construction started, we found ourselves (on more than one occasion) feeling so grateful we had selected Naikoon to work with, as issues arose- we wondered how other builders could have possibly navigated some complex issues in such a professional and knowledgeable way. Naikoon had the experience to see us through with virtually no impact to schedule or budget- a challenging task when there’s a global pandemic that happens midway through one’s build.

The relationships with trades is one of many keys to their success. In earlier days, it was established that we would often be presented with more than one bid for a subcontractor; however, they would highlight pros/cons of working with each company and evaluate the best fit. While we didn’t always proceed with the lowest bid, we truly feel that these established relationships facilitated the best outcome. The dependability of a trade and willingness to work out any potential issue was evident because of their relationships. In fact, we as homeowners also formed bonds with many of the trades and would often join in on Summer Friday beers. Great people=great project.

Naikoon’s roots are deep in BC and have a strong connection to sustainability and building well for the future. They are mindful of waste, keep an impeccably clean work site and truly CARE. It’s more than just a job for them.

Overall, our high performance home was built on time, on budget (during a pandemic, no less!) and will be a new legacy in our neighbourhood. And speaking of neighbours, all of our immediate neighbours have attested that the Naikoon crews were a pleasure to have next door. With so many spec homes going up, it’s easy to be dazzled with nice finishes and fancy appliances but the quality is often lacking. Naikoon’s bar is set high- they will not build a sub-par home. Period.
