Brilliant place to see all kinds on birds and other wild life. We saw bald eagles, many species of ducks, black squirrels and red-winged blackbirds which fed out of your hand. Absolutely mind blowing experience. Thank you.
So many Mallard ducks waiting to be fed! It's a nice walk and I especially like the scenery by the water. It's much like the Richmond West Dyke. Also saw other types of ducks, bald eagles, herons and a little owl. Chickadees will fly into your hand for seed.
Fantastic to spend hours at with or without kids. Lots of photo opportunities. I even won a viewer's choice award for one of my hummingbird photographs (attached) I made at one of the sanctuary's feeders. I believe this place is run by volunteers including the staff at the gate. Other than just one time, I have always been greeted with a smile from the nice lady at the main counter for the last 5 years! The one time the front desk staff was rude to me, I am sure the person was having a bad day. I have not seen the same person there before or after that day either so must be someone not used to being there. They have picnic tables as well if you want to bring your lunch. Please don't feed the ducks in the parking lot area!
A very peaceful and therapeutic place. Great area to go for a nice walk, bring your children and learn about the different bird species :) Personally, I buy 9 bags of duck food and 1 bag of chickadee food. If I'm being honest that is totally not enough. I run through half my bags before I get to the trail. The ducks are just too cute and you feel guilty when they quack you just want to keep giving them food. The geese and the cranes are little bullies though =P they push the ducks aside and pull their feathers just to get to the food. If you put the ducks food in your hand, they will eat out of it. Don't be frightened. It doesn't hurt. The duck/chickadee food is $1.00 per bag. We enjoy this walk so much we paid for a family membership.
Cool place. Didn’t see too many birds other than ducks, but kids and family still enjoyed it a lot. They let you feed the birds which the kids really like.
Visited on a sunny day, quite beautiful.
We were just casual visitors but apparently it’s well known for serious bird watchers too. Saw quite a few folks with artillery size cameras.
Gift shop is a bit underwhelming. We wanted to buy some souvenirs but they are mostly generic merchandise not specific to this place. However given the budget they have this small deficiency is understandable.
Location is a bit remote and might be just a little tricky to find, but just follow google map and you’ll be fine. It’s surely worth the trip when the weather is nice
