Warning to humans: the lake itself is extremely cold until late summer so I wouldn't recommend visiting with the intention of swimming (though people do it). On a really hot day, hanging out on a floaty or paddleboard would be perfect! Lots of hiking trails around to enjoy, make sure you pack out what you pack in and use the bear-proof bins properly. You are in bear territory here; do your part and it is possible to co-exist peacefully :)

It is usually not busy except for weekends, if you want to have a calm picnic or have a simple lunch with the family, this is a go to place.
You can enjoy kayaking and paddle boarding in a sunny day. There is enough parking to find a nice spot during the week. -

(February 8, 2019, 5:20 pm)Magical place to explore with many trails to explore, mountains to climb, lakes to see, ocean and powerhouses to find! Make sure you look at a map and plan accordingly. Trails are well maintained but take a wrong turn and you will find yourself going far into the wilderness. Beautiful loop trail about 10km, with 2km being on gravel. Lots of parking, loop trail is low elevation, so open all year unless B.C. Hydro is maintaining the trail! Weekends can get very busy in the parking lot. Two beaches, and an off leash dog park. This is a leash required trail!

Beautiful park though! There are washrooms available and picnic areas. A nice dock to view the water and mountains. Not busy at all, but likely due to the weather. Some people were bird watching there, so maybe a good spot for that. Also one trail along the water to get to the other side. -

Beautiful lake. Great hikes. Personable rangers and staff that do a great job maintaining the trails.
It pains me to give the area 5 stars... because it means more and more people that destroy the beauty of the place. Parking is a zoo in the summer... I prefer going in the early spring late fall.
Keep working hard Buntzen staff - some of us appreciate it!!
