(August 4, 2021, 6:04 pm)We were at the end of a long move, where we have been fitting 2500sq ft of belongings into 1300 sq ft plus a barn.
We were doing the move on our own with hired help, using a pickup truck and a cattle trailer. An insane idea really, especially including the fact of a couple of small personal disasters that interrupted the progress. It all seemed reasonable at first, given that we had a month to do the move and it was just around the corner.
BUT, things do get in the way, including the fact that my station wagon motor seized, and I needed emergency eye surgery...in the same week...in the middle of the move.
We ran over time in the August long weekend, and while we had an extension from the landlord, our moving help was unavailable on the final day.
While making arrangements to sell an item we could not take, I mentioned our dilemma to the sister of the owners of R&R Pro Moving and Transport.
Because of our interruptions, we still had at least 4 truck & trailer loads to deal with.
I called Radhika, and explained our situation. She said that her husband Rob and their employee Trevor were just finishing a move in Langford. She expected they would be clear in a couple of hours and said that they would be happy to help us.
We almost cheered when we saw the truck arrive, pulling a beautiful gleaming white 28' trailer. It was more than large enough to do the rest of the move in a single trip.
Best of all, they needed almost no instruction to understand what needed doing and what the best order of approach.
At one point, I walked barefoot into a piece of lightbulb that had been hiding in the carpet and Trevor stopped me immediately so that he could remove the shard. That's not the kind of thing that anyone would put in a service list, but I think it's what you can expect from this company.
If I had it to do again, this would be the way to have gone from the beginning. Despite that we had excellent people helping us, it was a lot more work than it was worth...and I doubt we saved any money at all doing it ourselves. Not worth going into the math here, but I'm confident of the validity of my statement. AND we would have had 2 weeks of free time to unpack in.
