(May 14, 2021, 2:31 pm)I recently joined a week of online training with CIHI as a refresher. After five years in business as an inspector it was very useful to get back to basics and remind myself of what I may have forgotten. The training consisted of full day sessions hosted by experts in electrical, plumbing and other building systems and moderated by a member of CIHI who is an inspector. The juxtaposition between the expert and the inspector was insightful and the many examples of defects we observe during inspections grounded the information they provided in the reality of the job.
If you are thinking of becoming an inspector or if you are one and want to stay up to date on the materials and processes as well as potential problems in home construction today I highly recommend the programs offered by CIHI. -

Although I have taken and passed other inspection course’s years ago, spending this time reviewing items and new techniques through the CIHI Training Program has empowered me with many new techniques and procedures, which will enable me to serve my clients better. (May 26, 2020, 10:55 pm)I was able to review one of the modules from the Institute. After reading through the substantial material in this one module it has become clear to me that this course will be comprehensive. I have not taken the course so I can't say how well it will be delivered but I read the bios of the teaching staff and it looks like he has a great experienced team that will undoubtedly be able to deliver this material in a way that is meaningful to future home inspectors. The material is important but the delivery to the students in a manner that is useful to their future on site experience is more important. From what I read, I'd say Alex and his team have found a good middle ground to be able to deliver a great course that will make the future home inspectors better prepared to do a stellar home inspection.

(March 21, 2020, 3:42 pm)I sure wish this institute was in existence when I became a home inspector in Canada, as it would have lessen the learning curve on what the Canadian codes were all about. The modules are well written and laid out by experts in the trades or home inspectors with relevant Canadian content on what the homes in Canada are going to have in them. Fantastic concept and future for the Canadian Home Inspection industry.
