Just last week, I purchased 2 cords of firewood from Ironworks. 1 of mixed spruce/pine and 1 of poplar.
Before visiting the place, I inquired about the approximate dimensions of the split firewood.
I was told the pieces vary in thickness, but the length was between 14-17 inches. That was acceptable to me. I saw the yard and the bins full of wood.
I placed the order plus arranged for delivery.
The order arrived at my place on time in a dump truck.
The order was dumped onto a tarp on my driveway.
Man! Was I glad I had used a tarp. With the 2 cords was at least 400 lbs of wood/dirt debris. The spruce/pine was perfect size and nicely dried.
The poplar was a complete disappointment. 90% of the pieces were between 8-10 inches long. At first I just started putting it away, then noticed that there were so many short pieces, I began throwing it into the box of my pickup. By the time we were finished, My pickup box was heaping full. In fact, I had no more room in it.
I phoned the office to let them know what I thought of all of these little short pieces.
The girl I dealt with was not helpful, but as she's only been there for a couple of weeks, I had my complaint escalated to who I presume is a manager. Xavier wouldn't offer any type of apology, but agreed to take the short pieces back in exchange for longer pieces. However, I would not get any assistance in unloading and reloading.
I brought it back the next morning, nice and early.
Xavier saw the wood and commented that it was strange, I had received so many short pieces, but still no apology for me having to bring a truckload of wood back.
I unloaded and then came back to handpick some poplar. A employee named Tammy actually assisted me, by climbing on top of the bin of wood and tossed down some more suitable lengths.I took all we could find, but was not able to fill the truck.
So, long story short, I don't believe I got two full cords of wood after sifting through all the wood debris. Well, another hard lesson learned.
Two things- the wood I could use was nice and dry and a Big Thank you to Tammy for her help.
I would not buy wood from them again because of the inconsistent size and all the extra debris that comes with it . Perhaps a bucket with a type of grate on the bottom, so all the debris falls out, keeping just the wood pieces. Thanks!

Great service and friendly folks. This is the second time I have used them and I will again.

The ONLY reason that I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is the fact that they don’t split their deliveries. I ordered a cord of birch and a cord of spruce/pine as I only want to burn birch in the house and it’s too expensive to burn birch in the outside fire pit.

When delivered they didn’t have a divider and could only dump it all in one pile... and I had to spend the next two hours sorting before I could even stack.

Other than that, great service. Hope they change this one thing.
