Calgary Laboratory Services

Did a walk in this Sunday am. Arrived at 6:45 and there were already 7 people in line. There were about 30 people behind me closer to 7, so go early! Doors opened at 7 and they took about 5 people in immediately and the rest of us checked in. Reception was quick and efficient. I was promptly called and I was back in my car by 7:15am. The phlebotomist was also very quick and efficient. These people deal with hundreds of patients a day and they are always SO busy. They accommodate patients’ schedules by staying open on Saturday AND Sunday. They’re working very, very hard, so cut them some slack. I think they’re doing a great job. Do yourself a favour and take advantage of their early hours and go early!

Compared to a year or more ago, I think they've really improved. The line has been streamlined, and everyone was friendly. I always make an appointment and there was no delay for me when that time came. Because of experiences from years ago, I did come an hour early and maybe it helped that the staff had everything they needed before my appointment time. However, I suspect even 20 minutes to half an hour ahead should be plenty and I would advise that. The nurse drawing my blood was courteous, efficient, and good humoured. I asked her to repeat a couple of things and she did so without getting impatient.

The experience was about the best it could be for having someone take your blood. I booked ahead of time and was in and out very quickly. There was quite the queue so I'd definitely recommend booking your appointment online.

Read reviews after I booked an appointment and really was expecting the worst. Much to my surprise, the ladies at reception were really nice, and the lab techs were even nicer! I don’t take needles well and they were so accommodating. Only down side even with an appointment it was still a half hour wait. But overall this is one of the better labs I’ve been to.
